Ravenna is the only late-ancient period town to conserve a baptistery dedicated to the Arian cult, the mosaic decorations of which – at first glance so very similar to Catholic baptisteries – emphasises more in detail certain aspects (first of all, the corporeity and humanity of Christ, subordinate to the Father, one and only God) in contrast with the Catholic doctrine.
From an iconographic point of view, great interest is found in the uniqueness of the monumental mosaic, in which Christ naked is depicted, anatomically detailed with explicit realism.
The differences between the two baptisteries (Arian and Catholic) can be identified also from a stylistic standpoint.
